Community Announcements:

1. Summer Splash - Bathtub Weekend (July 20 & 21, 10:00 am - 4:30
pm)

Join the child-friendly fun of boats, bubbles and more at the Nanaimo
Museum! Race model boats in the pool or make your own to float on the
water. Visit the Bubble Station to create big bubbles or a cloud of
tiny ones. Design bubble wands that make uniquely shaped bubbles and
create a bubble-head craft. We will be out on the street having a great
time with the rest of our neighbours as commercial street will be closed
to traffic that weekend. After all the excitement outside, come inside
the museum to cool off in the air conditioning and check out our feature
exhibit, "Snoopy Soars with NASA." Lots of fun for the whole family!

2. Historical Pub Tour - Thursday July 19 (1:00 pm - 2:30 pm)

A tour guide takes participants on a historical walk through downtown
and the Old City Quarter with brief stops at three of Nanaimo's oldest

Way. All participants must be at least 19 years of age.

3. Cemetery Tour - Wednesday June 27 (1:00 pm - 2:30 pm)

This tour takes participants through Nanaimo's largest cemetery to
discover the story behind our city's past residents and history. Meet

Old Fashioned School
Children will step back in time and experience life in a classroom 100

quill pens and ink wells. Children will participate in a cursive
writing lesson and make a magnet using historical photos. The program
is designed for children ages 5-12 years and is included in museum

must be present at all times.

Miner's Cottage Tours

The Nanaimo Museum is hosting tours of its coal miner's cottage, a
historic house located in Piper Park, on the grounds of the Vancouver
Island Military Museum (the former site of the Nanaimo Museum). The
cottage turns 115 years old this year and provides a unique glimpse into
Nanaimo's coal mining past. On Wednesday afternoons in the summer, a
costumed guide will be offering tours or visitors may choose to look
through the cottage's exhibits on their own. The steam locomotive in the
park beside the miner's cottage will also be open. Admission is by
donation.

*         Thursdays from 1pm-3pm (June 28-August 30)
Rocket Lab
Make and race rockets while visiting our Snoopy Soars with NASA exhibit.
Build a straw rocket, enter a balloon rocket race and leave with a
lollipop rocket treat. The program is designed for children ages 5-12
years and is included in museum admission fee. The program is offered
on a drop-in basis and caregivers must be present at all times. The
first 10 children (ages 3-12 years) that participate in the Rocket Lab

and pretend to run the coal locomotive and play children's games from
the early 1900s. The program is designed for children ages 5-12 years
and the cost is $3 per child or four children for $10. The program is
offered on a drop-in basis and caregivers must be present at all times.

cream. The program is offered right after the noon cannon firing and is
