Walking Tour - Hippie Kitsilano: the ‘60s and ‘70s
Sunday, August 19, 2012; 10am to 12pm
Tourguide: Michael Kluckner
$10 Heritage Vancouver Members; $15 Non-members
Tour begins at Kits House, 7th & Vine; ends near 4th Ave.
Join author, artist and Heritage Vancouver's first President, Michael
Kluckner, for a ramble through the Kitsilano of the 1960s and 1970s,
recalling Vancouver's hippie community and its legacy of social
activism. The tour will pass by old coffee houses and meeting places,
note some of the legendary communal houses, and put that era of
Kitsilano into the context of Vancouver's growth and development in
the postwar years.
Michael Kluckner lived in Kitsilano back in the day, and wrote and drew
cartoons for various alternative newspapers including Around Kitsilano,
Terminal City Express and the Mount Pleasant Mouthpiece.
