Vernon Public Art Gallery
Government Support for a New Vernon Public Art Gallery
Where: The Vernon Public Art Gallery, 3228 31st Avenue, 250-545-3173
When: May, 2012
Why: Financial support for a new art gallery
Who: Vernon Public Art Gallery
The Vernon Public Art Gallery is pleased to announce a show of government
support for a new facility was recently received in the form of a generous
cheque for $50,000. The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural
Development supports the Vernon Public Art Gallery and its Facility Steering
Committee to conduct a business plan and analysis for the proposed new
gallery.
This is the first step toward building a new art gallery and the Ministry
has clearly indicated they are in favour of this worthy and necessary
project for Vernon.
"While there are many educational and cultural reasons to support the
development of a purpose build art gallery for Greater Vernon, the economic
development opportunities alone make it impossible to ignore the importance
of this project for the overall health of our community. A facility of this
calibre would soon become an iconic symbol of the North Okanagan. It will
act as a catalyst for the revitalization of the downtown core inviting
developers to invest in our community and attracting the young professionals
to our area that are so necessary in expanding our tax base. It's a strong
strategic investment as much as it is a cultural institution for the
betterment of our community." - said Dauna Kennedy Grant, Executive
Director.
"The Vernon Public Art Gallery enjoys a well-earned reputation as a leader
in arts and culture in the community and the region," said Eric Foster,
Vernon Monashee MLA. "With support from the provincial government, the
gallery will continue to play a key role in Vernon's thriving arts scene.
The Province provides significant support for arts and culture across
British Columbia - over $53 million during 2011-12."
Funds provided by the Ministry will aid in research and development studies
for a new Vernon facility. Citizens will be able to see firsthand the far
reaching benefits of a new Vernon Public Art Gallery will be for all
residents in Greater Vernon.
