Its the Sooke Museum
Yes the 2700 k is warm, but our exhibit space in mainly cedar, so the warm light seems to work. Gives us that sepia feel. May adjust for some specific artifacts.
The 3000k is good in our office\giftshop\entrance area. I can see sticking with the 3000k in our art gallery \ temporary exhibit space which has white walls and would need better colour rendition.
There may well be an impact on heating (side note, CMHC did a study with the changeover to fluorescent from incandescent in residential situation and came to the conclusion that there was little impact). Our gallery space can get warm in the summer, so the heating issue may be a plus then.
ps, we are using the Philips EnduraLed. They are dimmable. It is possible to find cheaper ones over the net, but I would be worried about the CSA \ UL rating with some of these.

Thank you very much for sharing this info. There is no signature to your message so I don't know your display requirements for colour rendition; 2700 k sounds like an awfully warm colour temperature.
It would also be good to know how this affects your heating costs during the winter months since there is less radiant and conductive heat generated by the LEDs.

FYI, a little over a month ago, we changed out about half of our mr-16 50w Halogen lights over to LED 10w, so far the results are encouraging. Over the previous 9 years our average daily consumption over the month of May was 205kwh, with the lowest being 148kwh, this current May we are down to a daily average of 88kwh.
Now since our main heat is via electrical heatpumps, weather conditions also have an impact, but the dramatic difference is encouraging.
Should the next month bring a similar reduction in energy use, we will look at replacing the rest of our mr16 in the gallery portion of the museum. We went with 3000k white lamps in our entrance, giftshop, office space. We would likely go with warmer 2700K in the gallery.
We like the fact that not only do the bulbs use less power, they should last many years and they are cool to the touch, so much easier to move around the track. The drawback is the upfront cost of around $35 a bulb, but we estimate a return of about 1.5 – 2 years. Because of the potential impact on our annual operating cost, our local Lion’s are considering financing some of the change over.
