              Cedar Weaving Weekend Workshop

      Good Afternoon,

      The Sunshine Coast Museum & Archives is pleased to invite self-taught Master Weaver Jessica Casey back for another fantastic workshop. Over the course of the weekend, she will be sharing her knowledge of the traditional Coast Salish ways of cedar bark harvesting, stripping and weaving. 

      On Saturday, June 16th, we will meet at Starbucks in the Tsain-Ko Village Shopping Centre in Sechelt at 9:00 am and head for the forest. Jessica will demonstrate the technique of cedar bark stripping and workshop participants will have hands on experience. We will then travel back to the Museum where you will learn how to cut and split the cedar strips into suitable sizes for weaving. On Sunday, June 17th, we will spend the day at the Museum making a cedar bark basket using traditional weaving techniques. 

      Saturday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
      Sunday 10:00 am –4:00 pm 
      Cost for the workshop is $200 per person

      If you are interested in seeing Jessica’s Salish weaving in cedar and wool, her exhibit Red Cedar Woman / tēxēm -ay s-lhānay open this evening at the Sunshine Coast Arts Center in Sechelt and closes on July 1st. The Opening Reception is from 6pm to 8pm and everyone is invited.
