Hyperbole of historic proportion
Winnipeg Free Press Share/Partager
Budget cuts at Parks Canada have triggered a wave of hyperbole in Manitoba - "they are closing down
our history" - and much of it can be blamed on the Harper government's trademark inability to
communicate. The decision to centralize archeological services in Ottawa and reduce the number of
professionals in the province will have minimal impact on daily services to the public, but it is still an
unfortunate loss to researchers and academics. More/LIRE PLUS

L'an
More/LIRE PLUS

Emily Carr's Victorian funny book
Vancouver Sun Share/Partager
On Feb. 2nd, 1901, throngs of people jammed the chilly streets of London to see Queen Victoria's funeral
procession. One of them was Emily Carr, who was living in a cramped "ladies boarding house" while she
studied at the Westminster School of Art. The morning of the procession, she set off to catch the solemn
event with her friend Hannah Kendall. More/LIRE PLUS

The Journey of Wildlife and Art
Banff Crag and Canyon Share/Partager
Harvey Locke is a tree-hugger. Not that he exactly hugs tree - though he may on occasion - but his
passion is nature and wildlife. Locke will be sharing that passion with Banff with the Canadian opening of
his eight-year project, Yellowstone to Yukon: The Journey of Wildlife and Art, at the Whyte Museum of the
Canadian Rockies. More/LIRE PLUS

monde entier. More/LIRE PLUS

A year later, the Vancouver riots reverberate in art
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
Driven by shock, revulsion and a deep sense of shame, Metro Vancouverites drifted downtown after last
year's Stanley Cup riot. They cleaned up after the louts, and they scrawled bathroom gra ffiti-sized bits of
philosophy onto the plywood boards that had been installed over broken glass windows of businesses such
as the Bay and Future Shop. "Humanity is an ocean," read one of the countless messages. "If a few drops
of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty". More/LIRE PLUS

Museum uses various methods to attract residents' attention
EMC Almonte/Carleton Place Share/Partager
The Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum wants you! They want your input, they want your
artifacts, including historic photographs and they hope you will do some much needed volunteer work.
Mainly though they want residents to discover or rediscover the museum itself. The historic venue is a
treasure trove of information on the founding of the community, the development of local industries as well
as the individuals who have shaped the story of Carleton Place and district over the course of more than a
century and a half. More/LIRE PLUS
