Dirt, Dogwoods and Dragonflies at the Royal BC Museum
VICTORIA, BC - A green thumb is not required for Wonder Sunday at the Royal BC Museum, June 24, 2012 from 1 to 3 pm. Families will learn about BC's native plants with the museum's botany specialists, Ken Marr and Erica Wheeler, while they dissect flowers, make sun prints, help create botany-themed animation, make seed paper, explore the worlds of dragonflies, butterflies and bees, and add to the art garden bed.
Join Ken Marr, Curator of Botany, for a guided tour of the native plant garden, or play a family round of croquet. Don't forget to bring sunscreen (or rain boots depending on the weather). In case of rain, some activities will move indoors.
Wonder Sunday is a family program that runs on the last Sunday of every month and is included with museum admission or membership. Events are generally guided by the ideas of the permanent galleries and feature exhibitions and include activities, crafts and performances for children 6 - 12 years old and their families.
Royal BC Museum Kids' Club members are invited on an earlier behind-the-scenes tour of the indoor herbarium beginning at 12:15 pm. To find out more about the Kid's Club and family membership, contact membership at royalbcmuseum.bc.ca<mailto:membership at royalbcmuseum.bc.ca>.
About the Royal BC Museum
As the provincial museum and archives, the Royal BC Museum preserves and shares the stories of British Columbia - on-site, off-site and online - through its research, collections, exhibitions, publications and educational programs. Its two-hectare cultural precinct in Victoria also includes a number of historically significant buildings and First Nations sites; and its seasonal satellite museum gallery in Vancouver showcases BC's history in one of the oldest buildings in Chinatown - Wing Sang.
