The History of Art on Bowen Island Featuring

Lieben: An Artistic Oasis on Bowen

Opens Sunday, June 24th

 

 



 

 

The Bowen Island Museum and Archives invites you to attend the June 24th
opening of our summer exhibit, Lieben: An Artistic Oasis on Bowen.  This
exhibit is the first in a series on the History of Art on Bowen Island.  It
features hand-made furniture, original paintings, and photographs.  Lieben
was a unique home on Bowen Island where Einar and Muriel Neilson hosted a
number of Canadian writers, artists, and academics from the 1940s to the
1960s. Explore how Einar and Muriel's generous hospitality and restful home
environment provided a retreat in which members of the creative community
such as Malcolm and Margerie Bonner Lowry, Earle Birney, and Eric Nicol,
could carry out their work.
