Practice at Wing Sang for Artifact or Artifiction gala in Victoria
VICTORIA, BC - Tickets to Artifact or Artifiction are now on sale. This eighth edition of the fabulous fundraising gala and game will be held October 4, 2012 at the Royal BC Museum, Victoria.
Emceed by Astrid Braunschmidt, CTV Vancouver Island, the gala and game evening includes twenty artifacts and specimens as well as curators, archivists and collections managers to answer questions about each selected item. The event takes place in the museum galleries along with a roving buffet of fresh local ingredients; select BC beer, wine and cider; and a chance to win one of three grand prizes.
Last year, net proceeds from Artifact or Artifiction were more than $82,000. This year's proceeds will be directed to benefit the museum's areas of greatest need. Financial support from the community is essential in helping to share the BC story with British Columbians.
A limited number of tickets are available at $175 each (HST-free with a 10 per cent discount for museum members). They can be purchased by phone, 250-387-7222 from Monday to Friday, or online at www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/gala<http://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/gala>.
Artifact or Artifiction is proudly supported by a number of organizations, including CIBC (presenting sponsor), BC Hydro, Thrifty Foods and Truffles Catering.
This summer, potential gala-goers can practice before the main event. A mini version of the Artifact or Artifiction game fills one of the four galleries at the Royal BC Museum at Wing Sang, in Vancouver's Chinatown. This display lacks the wily curators and inscrutable archivists at Victoria's gala evening, but includes curators' statements, game cards, items from the museum's collection, and a statement about each that may be fact or may be fiction. The summer version of the game at Wing Sang gives only the satisfaction of your score - and of learning a few new things about BC's history - but it's a good warm-up for Artifact or Artifiction at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria on October 4.
As the provincial museum and archives, the Royal BC Museum preserves and shares the stories of British Columbia - on-site, off-site and online - through its research, collections, exhibitions, publications and educational programs. Its two-hectare cultural precinct in Victoria also includes a number of historically significant buildings and First Nations sites; and its seasonal satellite museum gallery in Vancouver showcases BC's history in one of the oldest buildings in Chinatown - Wing Sang.
