[BCMA] Nanaimo Art Gallery and the City of Nanaimo Public Art Auction

Public Art Auction

The Nanaimo Art Gallery's Public Art Partnership with the City of Nanaimo
began its 2nd year with the review in January, 2011 of responses to the call
for submissions and the selection of eight exciting artworks. On Tuesday May
10 City crews installed six public art pieces at Maffeo Sutton Park, one at
McGregor Park, and an eighth at the recently renovated Beban Park Social
Centre. The work is currently on display and all eight of the pieces are on
online auction until April 13 2012 at the Nanaimo Art Gallery website.  

The auction proceeds of the auction will be shared equally by the Nanaimo
Art Gallery and the City's temporary art project fund.

Once you have registered you will be sent a confirmation e-mail with a link
that you click on to confirm your registration (please note that you will be
unable to bid until you receive that e-mail and confirm your registration).
You can then bid by going to the site and clicking on the art piece you wish
to bid on. The auctions are live now and will close on the afternoon of
Friday April13. The auctions will close half an hour apart starting at 12:00
PM and will close in the order in which the pieces are displayed on the
website. The winning bidders will be contacted by the Gallery to arrange
payment. 

The bidding is basically the same as on E-Bay where you can enter a maximum
amount that you are willing to pay and the system will bid for you in the
regular increments until that maximum is reached. For example - if you have
entered a maximum of $1000 and someone bids $500 the system will then bid an
amount for you equal to $500 plus the minimum bid increment and advise the
$500 bidder that their bid is insufficient - this will continue until either
no one is bidding against you or someone bids more than $1000 at which time
you will be notified by e-mail that you are no longer the leading bid.

If for any reason you will unavailable or unable to access the internet at
auction closing time and still wish to bid then you can contact the Gallery
