The Vernon Public Art Gallery welcomes the return of Regina based
printmaking artist, Robert Truszkowski. In 2009, Truszkowski's work was
selected for exhibition in the first ever Okanagan Print Triennial (OPT).
Three years later we celebrate his accomplishments as the winner of the 2009
solo exhibition award with the exhibition titled Penance. Truszkowski is an
established artist, printmaker and professor, and yet this award carries
great honor as his fellow printmakers' submitted works from all over Canada.


 

"We are thrilled to present such an outstanding exhibition of printmaking by
one of Canada's most innovative printmaking artists. Public interest has
been good and we have received inquiries about the Okanagan Print Triennial
from across the country." Lubos Culen, Curator.

 

This exhibition is a result of a collaborative effort, and many years of
planning and preparation to create the Okanagan Print Triennial. In 2012,
the Kelowna Art Gallery will host the OPT from March 31 - June 17, and in
2015 the exhibition will return to Vernon. 

 

As a means of tying the OPT events together, the Vernon Public Art Gallery
is offering an art tour on Saturday, March 31st. The event will begin with a
tour of Truszkowski's exhibition at the Vernon Public Art Gallery. From
there, MJO Tours will shuttle guests to the Kelowna Art Gallery for a
private Art InSite tour of the 2012 Okanagan Print Triennial and roundtable
discussion with participating artists and curators. After some free time in
the cultural district, guests will conclude the day with a meal and wine
pairing before heading home to Vernon. "This is a great opportunity for
Vernon residents to participate in an art tour of the Okanagan, view
international caliber printmaking, and not have to worry about finding
parking or making reservations. This is just another example of the creative
cultural programming the Gallery intends to provide to our members and the

Robert Truszkowski; Penance, March 29 - May 24, 2012

Opening Reception and Artist Talk, Thursday March 29, 6-8pm
In conjunction with the Okanagan Print Triennial 2012 - a collaborative
project between the Kelowna Art Gallery, Vernon Public Art Gallery, and the
Department of Creative Studies (FCCS, UBCO Okanagan) - the Vernon Public Art
Gallery will present an exhibition of 15 prints titled Penance, produced by
the Regina-based print artist Robert Truszkowski, who was awarded a solo
exhibition by the jurors of the Okanagan Print Triennial 2009. The focus of
the exhibition will be centred on Truszkowski's conceptual investigation of
production and dissemination of communicable information, both digital and
analogue, which are instilled in the contemporary production of repeated
images. The meaning encapsulated in his images is definitely difficult to
decode at the first glance, but the works are loaded with philosophical
references, mediated residues of past and present events, and a reflection
on the social values of contemporary society.
