Fame and Museum. The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a not-for-profit
society, founded in 1966 to establish a permanent tribute to the outstanding
individuals, teams, and builders of sport in the province. The BC Sports
Hall of Fame and Museum is located in BC Place Stadium and has 15,000 square
feet of exciting exhibits displaying the passion and commitment of British
Columbia's athletes. Visitors are able to share the vision of those who

Position Title:                      Archival/Curatorial Assistant

Position Type:                     Full time contract available

Location:               Gate A BC Place Stadium, 777 Pacific Blvd.,
Vancouver, BC

 

 

The Archival/Curatorial Assistant fulfills a key role within the BC Sports
Hall of Fame and Museum. The mission of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and
Museum is to "Honour the Past and Inspire the Future". The
Archival/Curatorial Assistant will perform many tasks within the
organization. Key responsibilities include:

*	Assist with the general operations and programming of the BC Sports
Hall of Fame as required
*	Assist in the cataloguing of incoming donations of BC sport
artifacts
*	Assist in the general care and handling of the BC Sports Hall of
Fame artifact collection and archives
*	Assist curator with inventory control measures 
*	Assist curator with a review of the exhibit content to ensure
integrity of the items on display
*	Update Honoured Member profiles on the website
*	Respond to requests for research and photos from the public using
both telephone and email
*	Assist with the BC Sport Heritage Program as required

 

Qualifications:

 

As a staff member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, the
Archival/Curatorial Assistant will learn many valuable skills and experience
a unique work environment. Specific skills the job experience will help to
develop include:

-       Verbal, written, and computer communication 

-       Guest services and hosting experience

-       Organization and time management

-       Group and individual work

-       Collection care and handling 

-       Appreciation and understanding of BC Sport Heritage

-       Research for displays, reports, website, and museum programming 

-       Museum maintenance

 

Candidate Profile:

 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

 

-       Available from May 28- August 31. Must be able to work flexible
hours when requested. Must be comfortable in a busy environment and be able
to handle many different tasks.

-       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

-       Must be able to work within a team environment and independently
from time to time

-       Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution, preferably in
the area of museum studies

-       Interest or knowledge of sport or history is an asset but not
required

 

The ideal candidate will have some post-secondary training in a related
field (history, anthropology, natural history, or museum studies).  Previous
experience in a museum, archival and/or tourist attraction involving public
programming, artifact handling and/or guest services is an asset.

Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens or legally entitled to work in
Canada, must be willing to commit to a work for the duration of the posting,
and must be between the age of 16 and 30 and returning to school full time
