GO Party! fundraising event to feature visual art, music, art-making, and local food and beverage; proceeds to support the Gallery's educational programming

May 16, 2012 - Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to announce our 6th GO Party! fundraising event, entitled Illuminate, to be held on Friday, June 22, 2012, from 7 to 10 pm at the Gallery. Illuminate will kick off the Okanagan's favorite season, while shining a light on the variety of exhibitions and programming available at the Gallery this summer. The evening will feature three bars, a summer-themed buffet, door prizes and silent auction, a photo studio, four exhibitions, a hands-on art activity (lantern making), lawn bocce, and musical entertainment by local recording artists Thomas Kjorven<http://thomaskjorvenmusic.com/fr_shows.cfm> and Jeff Piattelli<http://www.myspace.com/jpiattelli>. Proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit the Gallery's educational programming, including our school tour program, Family Sundays and Art Adventures art camps. The Kelowna Art Gallery is a registered non-profit society.

Held on one of the longest days of the year, the event also celebrates the summer solstice. Guests are invited to break out their bright colours and dress to impress - Okanagan summer style - think fun, sophisticated, cocktail-friendly beach and patio wear!

This fundraising event coincides with the opening of the exhibition, Bearing Witness, on view at the Kelowna Art Gallery from June 23 to August 19, 2012. The exhibition features forty-one pieces by twenty-seven artists, including Pablo Picasso, Ken Lum, Ed Burtynsky, Leon Golub, and Nancy Spero. The over-arching theme is social issues, for example, war, injustice, oppressive regimes, and the perception and treatment of women. Bearing Witness is organized and circulated by the Vancouver Art Gallery, with the generous support of The Killy Foundation and Odlum Brown Limited.
