Museum planned for Point Aconi lighthouse
CBC Share/Partager
History buffs in Cape Breton are moving ahead with their plan to fix up the Point Aconi lighthouse and
promote it as a tourism destination. The Bras d'Or and Area Historical Society signalled its interest in the
lighthouse after the federal government classified it as surplus. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

Highwood museum reopens two years after fire
Calgary Herald Share/Partager
Walking among the displays at the newly reopened Museum of the Highwood in High River, it's easy to
forget the calamity that befell the facility on July 28, 2010. Except for a few pictures and a display case of
soot-covered artifacts preserved as memorabilia, little evidence remains of the fire that broke out in the
museum that day and forced its subsequent 22-month closure. More/LIRE PLUS

A park could honour immigrants
Winnipeg Free Press Share/Partager
Mayor Sam Katz has suggested the parking lot opposite the Canadian Museum for Human Rights be used
for a park in honour of Israel Asper. If this site is to become a park, I believe it should be dedicated to the
countless immigrants who, since the Red River settlers two centuries ago, have built this city and this
province. In the floor of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, under the central dome, is inscribed in Latin, "If ye
seek his monument, look around you." Thus St. Paul's is the monument to its architect, Christopher Wren.
In the same way, the human rights museum will, itself, be the enduring monument to Israel Asper.

War of 1812 flag being restored
CBC Share/Partager
A flag that was marched by the 104th Regiment of Foot from Fredericton to Kingston, Ontario during the
War of 1812 is being restored for an exhibit about the war, being held at the New Brunswick Museum next
year. The regiment consisted of men from the Maritime provinces and what was then Upper and Lower
Canada. More/LIRE PLUS

Sex and the cities: Receptive Regina, offended Ottawa
Macleans Share/Partager
When Sandy Baumgartner left Ottawa and moved back home to Regina 3½ years ago, it was for the usual
reasons: friends and family, cheaper housing and the slower pace of life. But now the executive director of
the Saskatchewan Science Centre can add another plus to the Queen City´s ledger-it´s far less prudish
than Canada´s capital. Sex: A Tell-all Exhibition, developed in consultation with teachers, doctors and
sexologists to educate teenagers about their bodies and desires, won an award when it premiered at the
Centre des sciences de Montréal in 2010. More/LIRE PLUS

A knock-out marriage of contemporary art and craft, the Textile Museum's 'Dreamland'
Blouin Artinfo Share/Partager
The Textile Museum of Canada opened its summer exhibition tonight with a show that once again trumpets
their increasing profile as an institution for contemporary art. Gone is the silent "craft" in their title, or at least
the term appears to have been appropriately woven into the much larger fabric of "Dreamland: Textiles and
the Canadian Landscape," on view from May 23 to September 30. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

NIC photo students show work at Courtenay museum
Canada.com Share/Partager
On Friday evening, June 1, join North Island College's Professional Photography students at the Courtenay
& District Museum for the opening of the program's 15th showing of student work. The event marks a
continuing collaboration between the museum and the photography program by utilizing the spacious
second floor gallery. More/LIRE PLUS
