Summer Employment Opportunity
Position: Event planner
The Mackie Lake House Foundation (MLHF) is seeking a temporary (summer),
full-time (35 hrs/wk)
Event Planner/ Researcher.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be involved in creating several community
events including the Queens Jubilee Garden Party, and be responsible for
preparing and supervising up to three additional events. He/she will also be
responsible for creating events for children, youth and families which
showcase Heritage skills and provide opportunities for inter-generational
learning, promote the history of the rural area of Coldstream and the fruit
industry in the area. The remainder of the students time will be spent
researching and developing the history of Coldstream.
Specific duties include:
- Program and event research
- Developing and writing activity plans and program reports
- Presenting educational programs and events
- Scheduling and coordinating program presenters and volunteers
- Producing promotional materials
- Participating in the evaluation of programs and events
Qualifications :
Eligible students for the Canada Summer Jobs program:
· are between 15 and 30 years of age;
· have been registered as a full-time student in the previous
academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the
next academic year;
· are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official
refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
(foreign students are not eligible); and
· are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Additional requirements:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public
speaking/presentation experience.
- Experience working with the public (especially children) an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a high degree of tact, and an ability to
work independently, and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Access.
-Proficiency in Photoshop, MS Publisher, Video and Social Media.
- A valid BC drivers' license, and occasional access to an automobile.
-University students with Marketing, Fine Arts, Agricultural or Education
program are preferred.
Term of Employment :
As this position involves working with children, a background criminal
records check will be required.
June 4, 2012- August 31, 2012
Some weekend work required.
Rate of pay: $12.50 per hr/35 hours per week.
