Kamloops Art Gallery Director receives Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal
Kamloops Art Gallery Executive Director, Jann LM Bailey along with museum professionals from across Canada, has been awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The Canadian Museums Association honoured 37 of its members with the presentation of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions, the medals were presented during the CMA's 65th National Conference. The CMA was chosen as one of the few non-governmental organizations invited to recommend these limited number of commemorative medals.
In their presentation to Governor General of Canada<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor_General_of_Canada>, David Johnston<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Johnston> who oversaw the approval process, the CMA acknowledged Dr. Jann L M Bailey, FCMA, for her enthusiasm and lifelong conviction that art and culture add to the quality of life and her leadership during her Presidencies of the Canadian Museums Association and the Canadian Art Museum's Director's Organization.
This new commemorative medal was created to mark the international celebrations throughout 2012 of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II accession to the Throne.
Governor General of Canada<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor_General_of_Canada>, David Johnston<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Johnston> and Prime Minister<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Minister_of_Canada> Stephen Harper<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Harper> unveiled the medal at Rideau Hall and the first medal was struck by the Governor General on 8 December 2011. The medal, which is to "honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians," was designed by Cathy Bursey-Sabourin<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathy_Bursey-Sabourin>, Fraser Herald<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraser_Herald> of the Canadian Heraldic Authority<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Heraldic_Authority>, and approved by Queen Elizabeth II<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_II>.
