Spending drops $25 million at national capital cultural institutions
Ottawa Citizen Share/Partager
The federal government spent $25 million less to run and maintain cultural institutions in the National
Capital Region in 2011-12 than it did two years earlier, according to the 2012 Public Accounts. More/LIRE

architecturales. More/LIRE PLUS

MOV longs to leave scenic suburbs for downtown display
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
The Museum of Vancouver has a problem. Despite an award-winning rebranding, programming of
excellent, edgy exhibitions and super smart outreach that has brought a new, younger crowd into the
museum, the MOV - tucked away in residential Kits Point - is up against an out-of-sight, out-of-mind
challenge. It may have a view to die for, but in a city that knows the value of location, location, location, the
museum is hemmed in by the beautiful spot where it sits. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

Dispute over Morrisseau painting heads to court
Ottawa Citizen Share/Partager
Kevin Hearn, the keyboardist for the Barenaked Ladies, is suing a fine-art gallery in Toronto for selling him
a Norval Morrisseau painting he believes was a 'fake or forgery,' according to documents filed in a Toronto
court. Hearn, who is an artist and collector as well as a member of the Canadian pop band, bought the
colourful painting entitled 'Spirit Energy of Mother Earth' in 2005 from the Maslak McLeod Gallery.

More/LIRE PLUS

Déjà canoe at the McMichael Art Collection
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
A new exhibition devoted to the nature paintings of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven opens this
weekend at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection near Toronto. But what, you may ask, for all the
advertising and promotion, can possibly be new about it? More/LIRE PLUS

Emily Carr painting a $200,000 bargain at auction
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
Calgary's booming economy let down art lovers Sunday, after a painting by a celebrated Canadian artist
sold for about half its expected hammer price. Emily Carr's Kitseukla watercolour, which depicts Gitxsan-
Wet'suwet'en totem poles in the first nations village of Kitseukla, British Columbia, hit the auction block for
the first time recently. It comes out of the West Coast artist's so-called Indian Collection, and she painted it
in 1928 after being cheered on by the Group of Seven. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

Canada's forgotten First World War ace Roy Brown honoured in his hometown
National Post Share/Partager
Rob Probert does not have a definitive answer to the question: why? Why has it taken almost a century for
Carleton Place, a sleepy small town not far from the nation's capital, full of red brick Victorian homes and
red maple trees, to celebrate the memory of Captain Roy Brown, a First World War ace, a fly-boy, a hockey
player and a handsome Canuck who fought an air-duel to the death with Manfred (Red Baron) von
Richthofen. More/LIRE PLUS
