More/LIRE PLUS

Goodbye, geeky engineering shows: The Design Exchange shifts gears
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
The Design Exchange's august front entrance - the Art Deco facade of the old Toronto Stock Exchange
- faces Bay Street, one of the most famous avenues in the country. But the foot traffic out front is nothing
compared with the crowds that flow past the design museum's back door, which links to Toronto's
underground PATH system. Thousands of office workers stream through the PATH labyrinth every day, yet
during one recent lunchtime, the stairway up to the Design Exchange was as empty as the DX itself.

How to improve the Glenbow
Calgary Herald Share/Partager
Going to a city's big art gallery is a must-do for many people, including me. This summer, Vancouver
showed a collection of Matisse, Renoir, van Gogh and Picasso. Even the Vancouver Art Gallery website is
a work of art. In Toronto, when I'm lucky enough to be passing through, the Art Gallery of Ontario never lets
me down. What's in-show at the moment? The art of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, subjects themselves
that are so compelling, Salma Hayek played mistress of the unibrow in a major motion picture. More/LIRE

Pierre Blanchette: Abstraction foisonnante
More/LIRE PLUS

Defenders of North Shore heritage seek recruits
North Shore News Share/Partager
Peter Miller is leading a fight to save history, and he's looking for new recruits. The West Vancouver
resident, president of the North Shore Heritage Preservation Society, has been involved in the non-profit
group's efforts to preserve the community's historic buildings since it was founded seven years ago. Now,
with the organization's annual general meeting coming up, he's hoping to attract more like-minded residents
to the cause. More/LIRE PLUS

Pictou County miners helped Moose River rescue
The News Share/Partager
For Clarrie MacKinnon a portion of the new exhibit about gold and its connection to Nova Scotia on display
in Stellarton has a story he's very familiar with. Three men were trapped in a gold mine in Moose River,
Halifax County and his father Tom was one of the miners from Pictou County who went to help with the
rescue efforts. More/LIRE PLUS

Railway shrine adds fire truck
Sudbury Star Share/Partager
The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre (NORMHC)'s latest addition includes an item
with rubber, not steel, wheels. "We are allowed to use it," explained Cody Cacciotti, NORMHC operations
manager, about the acquisition of the former fire hall/police station on nearby Young Street that houses a
1929 Bickle fire truck, once used to fight fires in the railway community. More/LIRE PLUS

Photos: Post-makeover, HMCS Ojibwa heads to new home
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
HMCS Ojibwa, the last of Canada's Oberon-class, Cold War era submarines, made its way through the
Welland Canal system in St. Catharines, ON, recently. Thousands of people came out to watch the unusual
event. Ojibwa was given a million-dollar makeover in Hamilton, before embarking on its journey to The Elgin
Military Museum in Port Burwell, ON, on Lake Erie. More/LIRE PLUS
