More/LIRE PLUS

Canada's car collection in sorry state
Sympatico Autos Share/Partager
The Canadian government has an excellent classic car collection. Not many people know that. But, the
feds paid for roughly 100 vehicles squirreled away in a warehouse. The collection is part of the Canadian
Museum of Science and Technology it Ottawa. The museum was set up quickly in time for the 1967
Centennial celebrations at a temporary location on the outskirts of the city. More/LIRE PLUS

Art Gallery of Windsor could close if the city does not purchase the building
Windsorite.ca Share/Partager
Employees of the Art Gallery of Windsor, who are represented by the Canadian Union of Public
Employees, say that the gallery could close unless Windsor City Council agrees to purchase the gallery
building. Council will debate a proposal to purchase the building for up to 2.5 million dollars, the Art Gallery
of Windsor would then enter into a lease with the city for $1.00 per year for the second and third floor
space, and the mezzanine area. The city will also cut off its annual grant of $450,000 to the gallery.

Architect chosen to design Winnipeg Art Gallery's Inuit Art and Learning Centre
CBC Manitoba Share/Partager
Once a collection of contemporary Inuit art climbs to more than 13,000 pieces, more storage space is
probably in order. When the Winnipeg Art Gallery went looking for an architect to design their new Inuit Art
and Learning Centre, there was interest from 65 architectural teams from 15 different countries. More/LIRE

Submarine arrives at military museum
Canadian Manufacturing Share/Partager
The HMCS Ojibwa is nearly home. Home, for the last of Canada's Oberon class submarines, is the Elgin
Military Museum in Port Burwell, Ontario on the north shore of Lake Erie. When it was decommissioned
from the Royal Canadian Navy in 1998, the vessel was destined to be scrapped, but a movement to save
the ship resulted in it becoming the property of the museum. More/LIRE PLUS

Lawren Harris sketch soars past estimates at Sotheby's auction
CBC News Share/Partager
A landscape by Group of Seven painter Lawren Harris was the big highlight at Sotheby's recent auction of
Canadian art, as it sold for far more than experts thought it would bring. Arctic Sketch XXII was in the
catalogue with an estimated price of $400,000 to $600,000. But when the hammer finally came down, it had
sold for $865,000. More/LIRE PLUS
