Group of Seven paintings stolen after Toronto gallery window smashed
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
When a thief or thieves broke into his Toronto art gallery early Sunday morning and stole three valuable
paintings, including two Group of Seven pieces, a sense of déjà vu set in for owner Phillip Gevik: Three
years earlier, a similar smash-and-grab netted three paintings by Quebec abstract artist Pierre Gauvreau.

Counterfeit Chinese art on display all over Canada according to experts
The Canadian Press Share/Partager
A flood of fake Chinese art has defrauded hopeful but naive investors across Canada and also threatens to
mar the integrity of museums in the future, experts say. In August, a mob of angry purchasers held a
protest on the front lawn of a Vancouver man they say sold them famous artworks he claimed were original
but later turned out to be fakes. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

Ahead by a century
Winnipeg Free Press Share/Partager
The Winnipeg Art Gallery's triangular modernist building has become an iconic place since it opened in
1971. Many people don't know, or don't remember, that the gallery had two previous homes before it settled
behind those limestone walls. The earliest was inside the Industrial Bureau, a sort of trade-show/exposition
building erected in 1911 at the corner of Main Street and Water Avenue to promote the booming city and
attract investment. More/LIRE PLUS

'Magnetic force' lovingly remembered
Chronicle Herald Share/Partager
Ruth Goldbloom, the warm, loving family matriarch, was remembered Friday with oratorical hugs and
humour by her children and grandchildren during her public funeral in Halifax. Hundreds of people gathered
at the Cunard Centre to honour the memory of the New Waterford native and pay their respects to her
family. There were people from all walks of life. Attendees came from the Halifax region, Cape Breton,
elsewhere in Nova Scotia and other provinces. More/LIRE PLUS

Diefenbaker hair discovered; museum will allow DNA testing in paternity hunt
The Canadian Press Share/Partager
A man who believes John Diefenbaker may have been his father is getting another chance to prove his
theory. The Diefenbaker Canada Centre in Saskatoon has discovered a lock of hair labelled as belonging to
Canada´s 13th prime minister. George Dryden of Toronto has been trying for more than a year to establish
whether he is Diefenbaker´s illegitimate son. More/LIRE PLUS
