FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

*Ioco Ghost Town Days Grows to Multi-day Festival*

*PORT MOODY, BC September 28, 2012 –* This October marks the
11thanniversary of Ioco Ghost Town Day. This one day event began as a
celebration of the heritage designation of the former Ioco town site. This
year, with support from Heritage Canada, the Port Moody Heritage Commission
and a number of local businesses, Ioco Ghost Towns Day has become the Ioco
Days Festival.

Put on by the Port Moody Heritage Society, the Ioco Days Festival is a two
weekend event with activities taking place at the former Ioco town at Ioco
Road and 1st Ave. in Port Moody. In keeping with the tradition of the
event, all the activities celebrate the past heritage of this unique
location.

Kicking off the festival on October 6th is the theatre production “Home
Town”, created by the local company Rebel Haunt Theatre. “Home Town” is a
site-specific, audience-interactive play set in the 1930s. According to
“Home Town” writer Sarah Dixon, “After poring through the ‘Ioco Times’
newsletters and many wonderful photos, we were inspired by what Ioco
represented: a home town full of interesting stories and iconic characters
and events.”

During two months of rehearsing at the town site, the Rebel Haunt Theatre
company created lovely moments of small town life providing a great way for
visitors to get a sense of the community that Ioco residents enjoyed. The
audience will be led through chosen locations in the town site, experience
life in "Home Town", and become part of the story as well!

“Home Town” is showing Saturday, October 6th and 13th at 1pm and 3pm.
Audience members should gather at Ioco Rd. and 1st Ave. prior to the show.
Admission is by donation.

The grand finale of the festival is Ioco Ghost Town Days on Sunday, October
14th from noon-4pm. Back by popular demand, this free family event has
become a staple for residents of the Tri-Cities. Visitors can expect good
old fashioned fun while learning about Ioco’s distinctive heritage.

Highlights of the event include tours of the town in Model A cars, artisan
displays, apple tasting, pie contest and log sawing. While you play, enjoy
entertainment from bluegrass band, 5 on a String, awarding winning
barbershop quartet Antique Gold, musician Nigel Tucker and magician Dennis
Hewson. Kids won’t forget pony rides, pumpkin decorating and many more
games and crafts. Keeping with a spirit of community and the tradition of
celebrating local heritage, the event is free to everyone.
