Growing Up With Star Wars Event at The Reach

"I'm getting too old for this sort of thing," says Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: A New Hope, which raises the question: at what age is someone too old for Star Wars? Join artist Chris Woods and author Gib van Ert as they lead an informal exploration and discussion on this very question at The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 7pm at 32388 Veterans Way.

"Only weeks after opening, local artist Chris Woods' exhibition SANDSTORM at The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford has already attracted thousands of Abbotsford residents and visitors from beyond to marvel at one man's tribute to one of the defining pop culture sagas of the past forty years. Now, we are excited to offer visitors a behind-the-scenes view at the process of creating the exhibition with artist Woods," explains Gabe Kirkley, Marketing & Programming Coordinator, The Reach.

In addition to Woods' presentation, author Gib van Ert will read and lead a discussion on his book A Long Time Ago: Growing Up With and Out of Star Wars, in which he describes how Star Wars captivated his imagination as a boy, broke his heart as a young man, and is foisting itself upon him again today through fatherhood. You will hear all about van Ert's personal experience with Star Wars. At once a personal memoir and a reflection on the shared experience of a generation, A Long Time Ago explores Star Wars fandom with equal parts humour and thoughtfulness, nostalgia and regret.
