[BCMA] New exhibit opening at the Maritime Museum of BC

Travelling exhibit Creature Comforts comes to the Maritime Museum of BC

The Maritime Museum of BC is proud to open Creature Comforts on August 24, an exhibit on loan from CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum. This new exhibit offers visitors a look at life at sea with a twist.

Creature Comforts focuses on the stories of animals living aboard vessels and their relationships to their owners. Since the early days of sailing, animals were brought aboard as mascots or companions for sailors.

Today, creatures are no longer allowed on naval vessels because of hygiene and safety reasons, but in the past cats, dogs, and even parrots, geese, rabbits, monkeys, reindeer, bears or lions could be found aboard. This display celebrates the contributions of animals great and small and will delights visitors with harrowing animal tales.

"It's a pleasure to be able to share these creatures and their entertaining tales and antics with a wider audience, thanks to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia," notes exhibit researcher, writer and developer Clare Sharpe.
