Subject: Potential Internship at Creston Museum
The Creston Museum is interested in applying for funding for an Internship position through the BC Arts Council's Early Career Development pilot program.
We are a community-history museum in a small rural community in south-eastern BC. Although we are a very small institution, we always have a lot going on, from summer-season events to off-season exhibit development. Because we have a very small staff (only one full-time employee), we can offer you opportunities to build your skills and knowledge in almost every aspect of museum work:
- Collections Management
- Exhibit Design and Installation
- Public Programming
- Visitor Services
- Community Engagement
- Volunteer and Membership Recruitment and Support
- Archival Practice
- Historical Research
- et cetera, et cetera, et cetera
This internship will enable you to build your skills in any or all of these areas and your ability to work professionally in the museum/heritage field, while at the same time supporting and advancing the work of the Creston Museum.
We are seeking expressions of interest from people, under the age of 30, who are in the early stages of their museum/heritage careers (less than five years experience). You need to have completed basic training in your chosen discipline, and you must be committed to establishing a full-time career in the museum/heritage field. You must also be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and have resided in BC for at least twelve months.
This position is dependent on funding from BC Arts Council. If our application is successful, the position will involve full-time work for up to one year, beginning as early as June 2014.
In order to apply for this funding, we must identify the intern in the application, and the intern is required to submit a letter with the application, outlining why he/she is interested in working with the Creston Museum and how the internship will advance his/her career. Because the Creston Museum is such a small organisation, we do not have an eligible person already - so if you are looking for an opportunity like this, please review the program guidelines here: http://www.bcartscouncil.ca/guidelines/artists/youth/early_career_development.html, then contact Tammy Hardwick by email at mail at creston.museum.bc.ca to discuss your specific interests.
We must have our application complete by January 15, so please contact me as soon as possible.
Tammy
