EDUCATION COORDINATOR

20 hours/per week

Become an integral part of The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford, British Columbia, which is a 20,000 square foot facility that opened in September 2008 and contains exhibition spaces, archives, collection storage areas and programming space. The mission of The Reach is to be the centre of cultural and creative innovation in the Fraser Valley. We are committed to preserving and sharing the stories of our rich and diverse cultural heritage and showcasing the best in the visual arts from both inside and outside our community. The Reach is a cultural hub and fosters intercultural and intergenerational exchanges in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

Applications are now being accepted for the Education Coordinator at The Reach. This visual arts and heritage program provides exhibition-related art and history tours and workshops for K-12 students from schools in Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley region as well as other groups. The Education Coordinator also provides professional development workshops for regional teachers, prepares teachers' guides and hand-outs for each exhibition (4 times per year) and leads Spring and Summer Art and Heritage Camps.

Responsibilities:

 *   Assists Curator and Collections Manager in the delivery of educational programs.
 *   Liaises with the Education Advisory Committee of School District 34.
 *   Develops school programs and learning resources for delivery at The Reach and in the schools.
 *   Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises volunteers to assist with school programs.
 *   Plans, schedules and facilitates workshops, courses and various art programs for school groups and teachers.
 *   Facilitates gallery tours and workshops to audiences of all ages.
 *   Manages budget for art materials.


Qualifications:

 *   Degree/diploma in the area of art museum education, art education, fine arts, history or a related field.
 *   Knowledge of educational learning principles with a strong knowledge of required BC Learning Outcomes in a variety of subjects from K-12.
 *   Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 *   Works well in a team environment.
 *   Experience with a wide variety of age groups.
 *   Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines.
 *   Confidence, flexibility and a sense of humour are essential.
 *   Must have a valid BC driver's license and ability to pass a criminal record check.
