INVITATION
Alaska Highway & Community Heritage Values Workshops
Everyone with an interest in culture, tourism, heritage and history is invited to attend!
The BC Heritage Branch with the Alaska Highway Community Society is pleased to be hosting Community Heritage Values Workshops in the following communities:
Fort Nelson, March 4 (eve) & March 5 (day): Dawson Creek, March 6 (eve) & March 7 (day): Fort St. John, March 7 (eve) & March 8 (day)
Each workshop will be tailored to the communities in each area.
Please visit our website for more information: www.ouralaskahighway.com<http://www.ouralaskahighway.com>
The workshops will provide an opportunity for communities in the North Peace, South Peace and Fort Nelson areas to explore what they value about their community's heritage and to identify historic places in their communities that embody those values. Time will also be set aside to discuss the heritage of the Alaska Highway Corridor.
Working together participants will:
* Interact with others who share their passion for heritage;
* Gain an understanding about heritage conservation tools and learn about initiatives already underway in their communities;
* Learn how to build on existing community assets and generate other creative ideas to celebrate and protect their community's heritage;
* Gather information that can be used as the basis for community heritage programs;
* Identify ways to benefit ongoing and future heritage projects in the communities as well as tourism initiatives; and
* Help identify key assets for the nomination of the Alaska Highway as a National Historic Site of Canada.
Community Heritage Planners, Ursula Pfahler and Pam Copley from the BC Heritage Branch will lead the sessions. On Day 1, the workshop kicks off in the evening with a 2 hour orientation about local projects, and a lively discussion that will get everyone thinking about heritage and prepare you for the next day. Discussions on Day 2 promise to be interesting and start at 9:00 am with wrap up by 4:00 pm. Light refreshments will be offered during the evening session and lunch provided on Day 2.
