CRAG & Community Background
CR Art Gallery is a young and energized organization. The region, with a population of 40,000+, has a large and active visual arts community and a stunning natural setting that attracts active residents and visitors. The Gallery’s attendance, at 18,000+ annually, is remarkable for a small community and a testament to the value placed upon a public gallery that offers 10+ exhibitions annually by mid-career to senior western Canadian visual artists. The Gallery has a permanent collection and presents 40+ programs (classes and workshops) for people of all ages. We have an active school program, which is currently being expanded as a means to diversify the Gallery’s audience and educative function.
We have an exceptional professional staff of five (part-time curator, full-time programmer, part-time executive director, full-time executive assistant and a contract financial manager), along with 50+ volunteers who provide a high level of commitment and skill.
The Gallery has a solid and diversified funding base, with local, regional and provincial support and earned revenue through a gift shop, events, sponsorships, a Friends group and donations.
Campbell River and environs is an attractive mid-sized community, with a city population of approximately 32,000. Housing is relatively inexpensive and opportunities for engagement in all aspects of the arts are an attraction, as are outdoor pursuits from kayaking and skiing to mountaineering and hiking.
The position of Executive Director is currently at three days per week, with a self-directed medical/dental benefits plan, and the potential to expand into a full-time position.
