Okanagan Arts Awards 6th Annual Celebration March 2, 2013
Kelowna Community Theatre
About Okanagan Arts Awards
Originally founded in 2008, the Okanagan Arts Awards underlying purpose is
to recognize individuals and groups for their outstanding achievement in the
arts; for their significant contribution to the arts; or to their noteworthy
support of the arts.
The arts are the soul of any community. They make a significant contribution
to the social, physical, and economic well being of any community. As such,
it is important to support and encourage those who are instrumental in
ensuring the arts survive and thrive in the Okanagan Valley and beyond.
This year the Okanagan Arts Awards will be celebrating its 6th year. This
magnificent evening will be a night of celebration, a night of elegance, a
night of performance, a night to remember!

About The Okanagan Arts Awards Presentation Award
Each year the Arts Council does "Call for ARtists" to the Okanagan and
Thompson regions for a new sculpture design for the Arts Awards. The
selected design for that year will be presented to each of that year's Arts
Awards Recipients. This year, glass artist Bruce Taiji's sculpture "Okanagan
Refractured" was selected to be the 2013 Okanagan Arts Award Design.
About The Okanagan Arts Awards Celebration Showcase
During the Arts Awards Celebrations we are also proud to showcase a number
of incredible Okanagan and Thompson artists. This showcase of artist
provides the audience the opportunity to experience and support several
different art forms while supporting the winning nominees.
About the future of the 2013 Okanagan Arts Awards
Now in its 60th year, the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO) is
the host organization of the Okanagan Art Awards. We look ahead to future
years of the Okanagan Arts Awards with great anticipation.
Not only are there more Nominees each year, but the geographical area that
the Nominees are from is wider. Our expectations for the future of the
Okanagan Arts Awards are bright because there are so many talented artists
and dedicated supporters who deserve to be recognized.
Artistic talent is drawn here for the beautiful landscapes, inspiration,
professionalism and the opportunity for growth and lifestyle. Famous
professional artists live here, and others starting their education in art
and culture are steadily growing.
It is obvious that the Okanagan-Thompson produce some of the most artistic
individuals in the Country. (Please see www.artsco.ca for the list of
present and past Nominees).
Recently, the Arts Awards Committee was approached by individuals in the
wine industry who would like to see wine included as an art form.
There has also been a keen interest to include the culinary arts as an Award
category.
We are excited for the future of the Okanagan Arts Awards and what it will
foster for Okanagan/Thompson artists.
