After a year of the position being vacant since my retirement, the City of
New Westminster has FINALLY posted my old job. As I have not seen it on
BCMA I thought I would post it here or my colleagues. *Note that it CLOSES
2013 Jan 18 THIS FRIDAY*
The New Westminster Museums and Archives now consists of 5 facilities:
1. The 1865 Irving House
2. City museum
3. City archives
4. Samson V Maritime Museum (1937 paddlewheeler, still afloat)
5. New Westminster Police Museum
The latter two were transfered to NWMA during my time there.
The city is building a new civic centre at Columbia and 8th. It has now
been named "The Anvil Centre." The museum and archives have a large
gallery, temporary exhibits gallery, reading room, storage and work shop
space allocated in the Anvil Centre.
Irving House will remain where it is and will be operated as a satellite
operation, as will the Samson V.
The artifact inventory was completed so the databases record the artifacts
and their locations as well as much of the archives.
Having retired I have no financial connection now, but my wish is that
having spent 6 years there is that they get a good person in as Manager who
can build upon what is there and can lead the NWMA into the future.
