Your group might want to look into Arcadia Publishing: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/ if they'd be happy with a black and white publication.
Arcadia published one of our books at no charge to us, and they pay us royalties on each copy sold. Also, when someone purchases a book through us, we get to keep the difference between the wholesale cost we paid to buy the finished book from Arcadia and the retail price at which we can sell it.  The down-side is that Arcadia books must fit within a pre-determined format.  An up-side is that there are no lay-out and printing costs because Arcadia does it all.

Hi, everyone,

I've had an inquiry from a local group looking at publishing a community history book - they are exploring different publishing options out there.  I've told them about Friesen's and our local print shop - any others I should pass on?

At this point, I don't think they have any real idea of book size or numbers to be printed, so feel free to throw out any suggestions you might have, and the group can weed them out from there.
