Manager with Marketing. Here it is!

Marketing & Visitor Services Manager
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, built in 1894 in the historic village of 
Steveston, is a living monument to the individuals involved in BC’s 
fishing industry. The site is operated by the Gulf of Georgia Cannery 
Society, an independent, non-profit society and registered charity. 
Working in partnership with Parks Canada, the Society strives to preserve 
the history of the BC fishing industry and present it in an engaging and 
relevant way. The site is open to the public year round and welcomes 
50,000 people each year from across the Lower Mainland and around the 
world. 
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Marketing and Visitor 
Services Manager is a key position involved in enhancing the visibility of 
the site and leading the visitor services team in creating exceptional 
experiences for visitors. 

Responsibilities:

Marketing
You will put the public face on the Cannery with exceptional promotion and 
public relations initiatives. Your duties include:
·       Coordinating all marketing and promotional activities.
·       Designing and publishing basic promotional material and overseeing 
the production of larger publications.
·       Preparing and managing marketing budget.
·       Acting as media liaison; including increasing the profile of the 
Cannery through press releases, media sponsorship, etc.
·       Overseeing the maintenance of contact lists for all stakeholders.
·       Developing and overseeing the implementation of social media plan.
·       Liaising with Parks Canada to maximize collaborative marking 
opportunities.
·       Promoting the cannery to tour operators and educational 
organizations.
·       Overseeing management of membership communications; including the 
quarterly production and distribution of Cannery Currents Newsletter.
·       Liaising with Tourism Vancouver, Tourism Richmond, and other 
tourism agencies.

Visitor Services 
You will lead a team of heritage interpreters and the Program Coordinator 
in ensuring visitors have a quality experience. Your duties include:
·       Implementing and continuously improving systems, standards and 
processes for visitor services management.
·       Developing and maintaining strong relationships and positive 
communications with stakeholder groups.
·       Maintaining an updated knowledge of the Cannery and the local 
area.
·       Overseeing facility operation including, maintaining open hours, 
overseeing opening and closing procedures, and maintaining gallery 
readiness.
·       Ensuring that visitor services are available in both official 
languages.
·       Working with the Public Programs Manager to develop tours, events 
and exhibits.
·       Developing and managing the payroll budget for interpretive staff 
and retail assistants, including reviewing time sheets and schedules. 
·       Supervising the Program & Volunteer Coordinator in the development 
and delivery of education programs and in all aspects of volunteer 
management.

Skills:
·       Bachelor's degree or diploma in communications, marketing, or 
public relations or an equivalent combination of education and work 
experience 
·       Experience in hospitality tourism, cultural attractions or related 
subjects. 
·       Proven success record in leadership and managing people. 
·       Fluent in English, with strong research, writing, and editing 
skills 
·       Knowledge of MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
·       Knowledge of French or other language is an asset.

Hours: 40 hours/week Tuesday – Saturdays regularly with flexibility for 
special events
