FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Nanaimo Museum Press Release

Heritage Home Walking Tour

Nanaimo - Many of downtown's most impressive heritage homes are gone but
not forgotten. The Nanaimo Museum is hosting a new walking tour, Old
City Heritage Homes Then & Now, featuring homes that have been
demolished and others that remain landmarks today. The tours are on
Wednesday, June 19 and Wednesday, July 17 from 1:00-2:30.

The tour takes place in the Old City neighbourhood near downtown. Tour
participants will stop outside several houses listed on the heritage
register and beside well-known homes that have been demolished.
"Heritage homes that we see every day have great stories to tell," says
Aimee Greenaway, Program & Volunteer Coordinator at the Nanaimo Museum.
"We will also stop where grand homes from the past owned by Andrew
Haslam, Cappy Yates and Robert Dunsmuir were located." Photos from the
museum's collection will show how the homes looked when they were
prominent features of the Old City neighbourhood.

The tour is recommended for both long-time and new residents. "Many
locals ask questions about heritage houses when they visit the museum,"
says Greenaway. "Guided tours of the Old City neighbourhood are rare
but its homes have a timeless appeal." The Nanaimo Museum will also be
highlighting well-known heritage homes in a new permanent exhibit
scheduled to open later in 2013.

Registration for the Old City Heritage Homes Then & Now walking tour is
available. The tours take place Wednesday, June 19 and Wednesday, July
17 from 1:00-2:30. The tour meets at the Nanaimo Museum, the cost is
$15 per person and pre-registration is required. For more information
