[BCMA] News Release: Night Markets at the S.S. Sicamous

The Night Markets are coming!

Join us for the launch of a new market on July 5th

The lakeside will be coming alive with the start of a new market on Friday
evenings. An array of treasures will be on display outside of the iconic
Steam Ship Sicamous. The Night Market will open at 4pm on July 5th, and will
feature local produce, delicious foods and handmade crafts. With lots of new
things to see and discover, the markets will make for a perfect evening on
the lakeside.

The Night Markets are being run and organised by the SS Sicamous Museum, who
are looking for new ways to reach out to the community. They believe that
the market and museum will be perfect partners.

"Back when the SS Sicamous was launched, almost a hundred years ago,
Penticton was a very different place. People had to grow or make everything
for themselves. With the markets I think we are seeing a return to that; an
increased awareness of local producers and a desire for self-reliance. That
is one of the reasons why the markets are so important. I think they help us
get back to our roots" says Don Wright, manager of the SS Sicamous. 

The museum will also be opening late on Fridays, so visitors can come and
explore the ship and see all of the work which has been done. The crew have
been very busy over the last few months and the ship is looking better than
ever with new carpets, a dazzling coat of paint, and brand new displays
inside.

The grand opening of the Night Markets will be on July 5th, with new vendors
coming every week, so don't miss out!

When: Every Friday from 4pm to 8pm. Markets will run from July 5th to
September 6th.
