The Osoyoos Museum Society is seeking two energetic and conscientious students between 16 and 30 years old. Students must have completed their first year of university or college, be returning to full time studies in the fall, and be registered with Young Canada Works (www.youngcanadaworks.com). The general objective of each position is to provide important assistance to the two-staff operation of the Osoyoos Museum. Computer skills and good organizational skills are essential.
Application deadline Tuesday, April 30, 2013
Both positions will start Monday, May 13 and end Tuesday, August 27, 2013.
40hrs per week @ $12.00 per hour.
Community Outreach Assistant
The student will research and compile information and provide assistance in a variety of areas including:
- assist with the development of a permanent museum exhibit on the history of early Osoyoos;
- conduct a minimum of four walking tours of the downtown area;
- contact and interview members of local ethnic communities, for the 'Voices of Osoyoos' oral history program;
- assist with a public presentation relating to the 'Voices of Osoyoos' program;
- update the self-guided tour booklet to reflect changes at the museum;
- greet visitors to the museum including school groups, cultural tourism tours, and various organizations;
- help volunteers with front desk reception, including making cash transactions and keeping records of attendance;
- other related museum work including general housekeeping.
Curatorial Assistant
The position will assist with a variety of museum collections management tasks to help improve the care and management of the museum collection, including:
- conduct an inventory of portions of the Museum collection, update documentation and database records, and photograph artifacts, all according to CHIN standards;
- interpret the collections on exhibit to visitors of the museum, including research and the production of new explanatory labels;
- greet visitors to the museum including school groups, cultural tourism tours, and various organizations;
- help volunteers with front desk reception, including making cash transactions and keeping records of attendance;
- other related museum work including general housekeeping.
These positions are dependent on funding through Young Canada Works.
