Expression of Interest for Historical Displays

The Society for the Museum of Original Costume (SMOC) presents a call to museums, galleries, centres, and public institutions for an Expression of Interest in SMOC’s Satellite Display Program.

Deadline: Wednesday April 3, 2013, 5:00 pm Pacific

As part of SMOC’s mandate to provide exhibitions of garments and accessories that reflect the rich cultural history of BC, SMOC has developed a Satellite Display Program, to provide opportunities for organizations, their communities, and the public to engage and share in SMOC’s collection.

SMOC currently does not have a permanent home in which to showcase its fine collection; however, the 3,000+ artefacts we’ve collected over 21 years is far too precious to remain closed to the public.

As such, SMOC invites museums, galleries, public spaces, and business centres to submit their expression of interest in participating in the SMOC Satellite Display Program. SMOC will supply display cases equipped with lighting, mannequins (if needed), appropriate signage, and artefacts for displays with time frames of six months to two years, with a rotation of exhibits for displays lasting longer than six months.

We request that Expressions of Interest for participating in the Program be submitted no later than April 3, 2013. Installations are tentatively slated to begin Spring 2014. Interested parties which are able to supply display cabinets may receive displays earlier than Spring 2014.

Submissions will be reviewed by SMOC’s Curatorial Committee and Honorary Curator.

Interested parties are asked to supply your organization’s name, address, contact information, and field of interest / specific interests. Please respond to info at smoc.ca (mailto:info at smoc.ca) ; kindly use ‘Display’ in the re: line.
