Hello,
On behalf of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Centre for
Cultural Planning and Development, I am writing to let you know about
two new online professional development courses we are offering
*starting on* *April 2, 2013*. These courses can be taken individually
for professional development, or applied to earn the UBC Certificate in
Cultural Planning -- a professional learning program delivered 100% online.

This course explores different models and approaches to events; the
fundamental processes and building blocks for creating, managing and
evaluating events; and how to develop policies and practices that
support eventfulness and its unique contributions to communities.

/Instructor: /Robert Palmer is an expert consultant and the former
Director of Democratic Governance, Culture, and Diversity at the Council
of Europe. His previous roles have included being Director of two
European Capitals of Culture (Glasgow in 1990 and Brussels in 2000), a
Director of the Scottish Arts Council, and Director of Cultural Affairs
for the City of Glasgow.His most recent book is "Eventful Cities:
Cultural Management and Urban Revitalisation"//(Elsevier, 2010).
Cultural Tourism: Impacting Communities Worldwide <cstudies.ubc.ca/UC005>
/100% Online, Instructor: Cheryl Hargrove, Washington, DC, USA/
As one of the fastest growing tourism segments, this course explores the
importance of cultural tourism, its relevance to community and cultural
planning, and how to contribute to sustainable and authentic cultural
tourism practices and plans.
Instructor: Cheryl Hargrove is a 30-year veteran of the travel industry.
She was the first Director of Culture and Heritage Tourism at the
National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, DC and is
currently president of HTC Partners, a company specializing in cultural
tourism planning and development. Cheryl teaches at George Washington
University and the University of British Columbia.
These courses are delivered *100% online* and include interactive
discussions, case studies and group-based learning activities that build
on shared interests, place-based experiences and actual community
development opportunities.
