The Pitt Meadows Museum has two summer positions available (funding pending)
as follows:
Summer Programs Coordinator, May 22nd through August 25th (14 wks.)
This position involves the development and presentation of family/children's
programs for Pitt Meadows Day, Airport Open House, Canada Day, Countryfest,
17th season of Heritage Thursdays for Children (summer children's heritage
and culture craft camps held at the Museum), and other community events the
Museum may be requested to attend. The position also involves working with
the Museum's Curator to conduct an overhaul of a section of the artifact
storage room of the Museum including an inventory, a conservation
assessment, a reaccession, some photography and a reshelving project. Other
duties will include: other collections management functions; visitor
services functions at the Museum sites, including greeting visitors, opening
and closing procedures for the day, basic Museum Shop functions and
providing information about the Museum and its services and about the
general history and makeup of the area. As in past years, the student will
also have the option, time permitting, of pursuing a project of their own
interest.
Museum Technician May 29th through August 31st (14 weeks)
A position for a post secondary student interested in history at the
community level and may be considering a career in the museum field. The
ideal candidate would be a history or English/writing major but a student in
education, technology or visual arts would also be considered. The position
involves working with the collections of small hand tools at both of the
Museum sites and breaks down into two segments: first, the photo
documentation of the hand tools and small power tools at the Hoffmann and
Son site; second, the inventory, accession/deaccession review, photo
documentation, storage and exhibit mounting of a selection of tools at the
General Store site. The position also involves assisting with Museum public
open hours and participation in programs, special events and outreach and
one or more newspaper articles to promote the project and the grant.
Candidates must in school full time and be returning full time in the fall,
be between the ages of 16 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Positions are dependent on approved funding from the HRSDC Summer Employment
for Students program and from the YCW program.
