The Mission Museum is looking to fill the following student position:

 

Summer Employment Opportunity

Position: Youth Programs Coordinator

 

This position is contingent on funding approval from Service Canada Summer
Jobs Program.

 

The Mission Historical Society is seeking a temporary (summer) Youth
Programs Coordinator for the Mission Museum. The Youth Programs Coordinator
will be responsible for conceptual development and execution of eight weekly
two-hour sessions, termed "Kids' Club", to be scheduled for the months of
July and August as well as special events throughout the summer as needed.


 

Duties and Responsibilities:

.         Researching of information to ensure that each Kids' Club session
incorporates education elements about Mission's local history

.         Planning of activities designed to teach teamwork, such as group
games or joint projects

.         Incorporating a taught trade or skill that children apply to the
creation of an item they take home

.         Acquiring materials and supplies in accordance with the
programming budget and organising them to allow for easy access and creation
of programming and special events

.         Advertising, marketing and promotion through local community
resources

.         Assisting in Kids' Club volunteer recruitment, coordination and
training

.         Facilitating other special events and exhibits during the summer

.         Conceptualising plans for the following year, based on group
discussions of current outcomes

.         Attending to the public when the Manager is absent or unable to do
so

 

Qualifications:

.         Must be a student between the ages of 15 and 30 in the previous
academic year who intends to return to full-time studies in the fall
(details of eligibility available online under FAQ number 10 at
http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/epb/yi/yep/programs/csj/2013/faq.shtml).
Priority may be given to candidates who have not previously participated in
the Summer Job Program at the Mission Museum and/or those with previous work
or volunteer experience in a Museum

.         Possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and
enjoy working with children.

.         Strong written and oral communication skills

.         Excellent attention to detail

.         Demonstrated ability to organize information and prioritize tasks
and projects

.         Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as with
others

.         Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products

.         Pass a criminal record background check.

 

Term of Employment:

.         12 weeks from June 5 to August 24, 2013; Wednesday to Saturday;
9:00am-4:30pm

.         Rate of Pay: $14.00
