The Friends of the Vancouver City Archives announces its annual fundraising event, From Chaos to Control: the Rise of Party Politics in BC. In a time when the public increasingly wants politicians to represent their constituents and vote their conscience, the evolution of party politics in the early 1900s provides fascinating context. Imagine a young MLA in New Westminster, Richard McBride finding an unlikely ally in Lieutenant-Governor Sir Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière, a Protestant Québécois appointed by Liberal Prime Minister Sir Wilfred Laurier. A new era of party politics is about to begin.
