This looks like the hats worn by the police force in Jamaica. I lived there many years, and came close to them (but not on a professional basis!) The regular force wore red bands, and stripes on their trousers (thus, Red Stripe Beer) and the auxiliaries wore blue ones.

"BC Provincial Policy hat." Nice one Kris. I am sure it was deliberate as you have hung around Victoria for so long...
I have been researching the B.C. Provincial Police for a few years now as my late father-in-law, Ted Brue, was a BCPP member. I been also attending their veterans' monthly luncheons (winding down and their association formally disbanded due to age of the survivors, after all BCP were disbanded in 1950) and I am now collecting BC Police items. I have created a database listing all known BCPP members (1,436 so far) and their regimental numbers (which only started being issued in the 1920s) so I can help museums and collectors to identify who wore a uniform if the regimental number e.g. 1234 is marked in it. I add other info into the database when time permits such as links to stories and photos in THE SHOULDER STRAP magazine of the BCPP. Note that their handcuffs, leather pouches and firearms had separate BCP inventory numbers e.g. BCP 60. This was an amazing police force, which should be remembered. They were formed in 1858 and were much older than the RCMP which was formed as the NWMP in 1873. Happily the BCPP are represented in various museum collections around the province e.g. Sooke, Burnaby and Osoyoos.
That being said your hat is NOT BCP in my opinion. Their uniforms were brown with a dark green trim.

Might be worth following up with the RBCM to see if it is a BC Provincial Policy hat.

Hello everyone. I have attached a picture of an item without an accession number that we found while doing inventory in our collection. It is a navy blue hat with a red band and a silver button on each temple that says “Police Force” with a crown symbol in the centre. Can anyone help me identify this item and perhaps give an era? Any additional information you might have for me would be helpful as I have little. What I do know from contacting the Vancouver Police Museum is: “it is NOT a VPD hat. It also doesn't seem to be an RCMP hat, as their button logo is a buffalo. It's probably not a New Westminster Police or Victoria hat either, as their band is blue and checkered respectively. It's definitely a Policing organization within the commonwealth.” Any ideas?
