Members' Exhibition Exposes Local Talent

 

What: Annual Members' Exhibition and Fundraiser Opening Reception

Where: Vernon Public Art Gallery, 3228 31st Ave. Vernon, BC

When: November 7, 2013, 6-8pm

The Vernon Public Art Gallery opens its ever popular annual members'
exhibition Exposed! just in time for the holidays. Artwork created for this
exhibition are produced by members of the Gallery and will be available for
sale and viewing until the end of the year. The exhibition contains two and
three dimensional works of art of modest sizes and is a celebration of
creativity and artistic production by aspiring artists.

 

The ambiguous title Exposed! is open to interpretation and a variety of
themes in which artists can use in the choice of mediums and subject matter.
In 2012, the exhibition featured a number of studies of the human figure. In
2013, the Gallery is encouraging artists to further explore the title and is
offering prizes in three categories; Photography, the Human Body, and a
People's Choice award.

 

The exhibition is also a fundraiser for the Gallery. All the art is
available for purchase and proceeds support the artist(s) who created the
work, with a small percentage going back to support the Gallery. Because the
works of art are of a modest size, the price is very reasonable and a great
opportunity for art lovers to own or gift an original piece of art.

 

"It's an opportunity for artists to exhibit work in a professional gallery
setting, as well as showcase their art for sale. We want to show our
appreciation to our membership and this is one small gesture in doing so. We
are also very excited to feature Patricia Ansile, Chief Curator emerita of
Calgary's Glenbow Museum, who will be giving a book presentation at 6:30pm."
said Dauna Kennedy Grant, Executive Director.

 

 Ansile has selected 13 Okanagan-based artists with outstanding national
reputations, and provides fascinating insights into their lives and work in
her book titled Okanagan Artists in their Studios. They are artists who have
made a contribution to the development of the visual arts in Canada far
beyond the Okanagan, through their own work, as well as teaching, mentoring
younger artists and exhibiting their work.

 

The opening reception of Exposed! takes place at the Vernon Public Art
Gallery, 3228 31st Ave, Vernon BC, on Thursday, November 7th from 6:00 -
8:00pm, and will run until December 23, 2013. The exhibition is sponsored by
Nixon Wenger LLP. Admission to the Gallery is by donation.
