The public is invited to a tailgate party to celebrate the opening of the Penticton Museum's latest exhibit:

TALES FROM THE BACK BUMPER: A 100 YEAR HISTORY OF THE LICENCE PLATE

When: Thursday, September 12th, 2013
Time:  4pm - 7pm
Where: The Penticton Museum 785 Main St. Penticton

Licence plates have been around for a hundred years; we see them every day and each tells a tale of life in the 20th century. Come explore the narrative behind what makes the mundane licence plate so exciting! They even play a part in Penticton's history. From Dr. R.B. White and his hand-painted personalized plates to Penticton's own Pacific Coast Militia Rangers Company 71, who were part of Canada's reserve defenses in case of Japanese invasion during WWII, they all have a unique story that's just a few of the thousands of bumpers that have sported licence plates over the last century.

Join us at our bumper exhibit opening that explores the development, evolution, and surprising controversy surrounding licence plates. The exhibit will from September 12th to December 20th 2013.

Meet Christopher Garrish, author of the book Tales from the Back Bumper (and inspiration for the exhibit) for a book signing and presentation on the history of the licence plate in BC.

Event includes tailgate buffet, beer, wine, door prizes, and live music. Admission by donation.
