Dear Member,
One of the biggest maritime tragedies in World War II was the attack on convoy PQ-17 while it carried relief supplies to Russia in July 1942. Upon receiving intelligence of the attack, the convoy escorts were ordered to withdraw leaving 22 of the 33 convoy ships to sink.
In preparation for an upcoming exhibit on the PQ-17 disaster (in partnership with the Victoria Symphony (http://mmbc.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=392ce41151756bc6d355f6be7&id=3faf03fae2&e=cfc47c903b) ), we are looking for personal stories to honour merchant sailors who may have connections to PQ-17 as well as other sailors who served aboard convoys during World War II.
If you would like to share your story or the story of someone in your family, please contact Anissa Paulsen, Director of Exhibits and Visitor Engagement at the Maritime Museum by October 4th by email at apaulsen at mmbc.bc.ca (mailto:APaulsen at mmbc.bc.ca) . More information regarding this upcoming exhibit will be shared in our next newsletter.
If you have any questions about your membership or upcoming events, please give me a call at 250-385-4222 ext. 105 or email members at mmbc.bc.ca (mailto:members at mmbc.bc.ca) . I am always happy to speak with you.
