Position: Heritage Interpreter
Do like to bring history to life? Create interesting presentations about the
heritage and history of the Mackie Lake House and the families that lived in
it. The Mackie Lake House Foundation is seeking a temporary (summer)
full-time (35 hrs/wk) Heritage Interpreter.
Duties and Responsibilities
The student will work with the Foundation Manager to develop and execute a
strategy for marketing, creating and administering events and interpretive
programs that will present the history of the Mackie Lake House. Included in
this job will be the research and development of new interpretive programs,
maintenance of related artifacts and data, and co-ordination of program
delivery.
The student will work under the supervision of our Foundation archivist and
Mackie Lake House Foundation manager regarding all aspects of the projects.
Qualifications
The candidate must fulfill all eligibility requirements of the YCW Program,
including registration on the YCW web site.
Ideally, the candidate will have completed at least 1 year of undergraduate
study in a relevant subject field (i.e. History, Communications, Education)
and will have some experience as a volunteer, student intern or employee in
a related field. The candidate should have an expressed interest in working
in Heritage and have familiarity and interest in the history of the BC
Interior.
An outgoing personality with good public speaking skills and ability to work
well with people of all ages is required. Theatre and teaching experience an
asset.
The candidate must have experience working with a PC computer (prefer prior
experience working with Photoshop, Access 2010, and scanning processes and
procedures). Good writing, computer, and communication skills required.
Strong organizational and time management skills are required. An ability to
work independently, and as part of a team should be demonstrated. The
candidate will be in a position to work with the public, and may require a
background criminal records check.
Terms of Employment
28 April 2014 through 16 Aug 2014; a flexible schedule with some Saturday or
Sunday shifts required, typically Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:30pm,
with a half-hour unpaid lunch.
Rate of Pay: $13.00 hour
The Heritage Interpreter position is dependent on grant funding.
