[BCMA] Press release: The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver’s Annual Passage to Adulthood Ceremony

The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver’s Annual Passage to Adulthood Ceremony



Taking place on the 26th of April, 2014, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver and the Vancouver Hanfu Culture Society will once again host the traditional Chinese Passage to Adulthood Ceremony. Last year’s event was a success, and we wish to continue this event once or twice a year so that more youths today may have the chance to experience this tradition.



The purpose of this event is for the audience to see and experience for themselves this unique ceremonial ritual. For the participants, it is an opportunity to experience the ancient “coming-of-age” ceremony, celebrating the beginning of adulthood, while thanking their parents for their lifelong care. The ceremony will be accompanied by traditional Chinese music, and will be conducted in both English and Chinese Mandarin.



The Passage to Adulthood Ceremony will begin at 2pm on April 26th, 2014. The event will undergo up to three sessions if necessary, with a maximum of five participants per session. Each participant will change into three different sets of traditional Chinese hanfu during the ceremony, and will be mentored by a Hanfu Society member throughout the event proceedings. The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver will award all participants who have completed the ceremony a Passage to Adulthood Certificate. After the event, all interested event participants will have a chance to perform a particular talent to the audience that exemplifies traditional Chinese art.
