Shipwrecks 2014: Maritime Tragedies of the 20th Century

The Underwater Archaeological Society of BC (UASBC) presents Shipwrecks 2014: Maritime Tragedies of the 20th Century with registration starting at 8:30 am Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Canadian Forces Pacific Fleet Club, 1587 Lyall St. Esquimalt.  Day Session lectures: Empress of Ireland, the Forgotten Empress by Rob Field, Archaeologist; The Princess Sophia Tragedy by Annette Smith, Maritime Historian and Diver; Valencia Disaster, BC's Worst Shipwreck by Silva Johansson, Interpreter, Parks Canada; Sailing into Oblivion, The SS Pacific Story by Jacques Marc, Explorations Director, UASBC; Zalinski Oil Reovery Operations a Success by Dan Reid, Canadian Coast Guard; Developing James Cameron's Submersible to Dive the Marianas Trench by Tim Bulman, President, Indepth Marine.  The Dinner and Keynote speaker event will also be held at the Fleet Club with  Dr. Piotr Bojakowski and Dr. Katie Custer of the Atlantic World Marine Archaeology Research Institute (AMARI) talking on " Guns, Provisions, and the Governor:  The Wreck of the Galleon Warwick, 1619" .  

Cost: Day Session - $35; Dinner and Keynote Speaker: $40.
