'Okanelemental' the winning Design for the 2014 Okanagan Arts Awards

Official Launch of the Okanagan Arts Awards

Kelowna, BC 

 

On January 18, 2014 (Kelowna, BC):  The Arts Council of the Central Okanagan
(ARTSCO) revealed the new design for the 7rd Annual Okanagan Arts Awards
sculpture. The 2014 Okanagan Arts Award will be a three-dimensional
stainless steel sculpture, titled 'Okanelemental' and was created by Vernon
artist Julie Oaks with the help of blacksmith artist Doug Alcock.  'Oaks'
design was chosen from among three finalists.  

 

All the awards submitted were of very high calibre. The jurors considered
Originality, Effectiveness, Craftsmanship and Artist Statement in
determining the final award. Congratulations to all the artists who
submitted, the entries were fabulous.

 

The Okanagan Arts Awards celebrate the arts, artists and supporters in
fourteen categories and were created by the Arts Council of the Central
Okanagan to recognize individuals and groups for their outstanding
achievement in the arts; for their significant contribution to the arts; or
to their noteworthy support of the arts.

 

The Okanagan Arts Awards serve to underline the importance of the arts to
the people and communities in the Okanagan and Thompson Regions. The arts
make a significant contribution to the social, physical, and economic
well-being of any community. As such, it is important to support and
encourage those who are instrumental in ensuring the arts survive and thrive
in the Okanagan/Thompson Valleys.

 

 

Communities throughout the Okanagan/Thompson are encouraged to nominate
individuals and organisations for their contribution to the arts. Get your
nominations in before the deadline of January 31, 2014!

The Okanagan Awards Celebration will take place on March 22, 2014 at the
Mary Irwin Theatre, Rotary Centre for the Arts.  The evening features a
showcase of artists and performers from throughout the Region along with the
official Awards presentations.  Tickets for this Celebration Concert will be
made available starting February 10, 2014 at the Rotary Centre for the Arts
