New York Media-Artist and Award-Winning Author Karasick
Speaks At The Reach!
Abbotsford, BC - Media-artist and award-winning author Adeena Karasick flies into Abbotsford from New York later this month to celebrate the closing of the successful bill bissett exhibit at The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford. You could say that she is a true protégé of bissett coming to our city to lead Spoken Word & Bubbly on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 12:30pm.
"Abbotsford is in for a special treat with Adeena's poetics and dynamic performance - an event not to be missed," says Kate Bradford, curatorial assistant at The Reach.
Professor of Pop Culture, Gender and Media Theory at Fordham University, New York, Karasick will be reading from her most recent book This Poem (Talonbooks, 2012). Karasick's illustrious bio reflects that she is a poet, cultural theorist, media artist and author of seven books of poetry and poetic theory, including: Amuse Bouche: Tasty Treats for the Mouth and The House That Hijack Built. Her urban, Jewish feminist mashups have been described as "electricity in language" (Nicole Brossard) and noted for their "cross-fertilization of punning and knowing, theatre and theory" (Charles Bernstein), "a twined virtuosity of mind and ear which leaves the reader deliciously lost in Karasick's signature syllabic labyrinth" (Craig Dworkin). She is also co-founding Director of KlezKanada Poetry Festival and Retreat, Laurentian Mountains, Quebec.
Tickets to celebrate over bubbly, delicious appetizers and electric spoken word with the vivacious Adeena Karasick on June 28 at 12:30pm at The Reach are: $10pp for Reach Friends and $15pp for future Friends. Available at www.thereach.ca<http://www.thereach.ca>, email: info at thereach.ca or drop by The Reach at 32388 Veterans Way, Abbotsford.
You also still have time to experience the textual vishyuns: image and text in the work of bill bissett exhibition daily (except Mondays) until June 29 at The Reach. bissett, who resides in Toronto and Vancouver, is a unique figure in the history of Canadian literature and art - he's a renegade poet, author of over 60 poetry books, and a free-spirited artist who contributed to changing the landscape of Canadian poetry in the 60s and 70s.
