[BCMA] Mystery orphan object

Hi
Could anybody please help identify the attached object? I'm afraid we found it in our collection with zero provenance or background info. We suspect it is a gun barrel cleaning rod but have can't match it with any armament info
It is stainless steel and 75 cm long. It is mostly solid except for a short open tube at one end. The other end has a fixed, solid pin with a small almond shaped notch (see photo).
