Position Overview 

 

The Chilliwack Museum and Archives is looking for a Museum Projects
Assistant for a 13-week summer position. The Museum and Archives includes an
exhibition centre and gift shop located at the Chilliwack City Hall National
Historic Site in downtown Chilliwack, as well as an archives and research
facility located in a separate building 3 blocks away. 

 

The position of Museum Projects Assistant will provide the successful
candidate with an opportunity to gain direct knowledge and experience of
several aspects of community museum and archives operations, including
collections management, exhibitions, and preventative conservation. In
addition to assisting in the day-to-day interaction with visitors, specific
projects will include the digital interpretation of an existing museum
exhibit, participation in museum collection storage improvements, and
contributing to the digitization of archival and artifact collections
records.

 

The successful candidate will be a college or university student with an
interest in the heritage field, as demonstrated by courses taken in History,
Anthropology, Archaeology, Art History, Cultural Geography, Library Science
or Museum Studies. Coursework or interest in Design, Photography, or Digital
Media will also be considered assets. Preference will be given to a highly
motivated individual with excellent oral and written communications skills,
and a strong attention to detail. The individual must be courteous and
tactful in dealing with the public, work well in a team environment, and be
able to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
will be an asset. The ability to lift 30 pounds and climb a stepladder will
also be helpful. 

 

Applicants must be full-time students planning to return to full-time
studies in the fall of 2014, and must be registered on the Young Canada
Works on-line candidate inventory.
